Seniors

Costs are going up, but social security and retirement accounts are not keeping up. That’s why Kara is fighting to increase support for our seniors and cut taxes.
You worked hard your whole life. Kara believes it’s the state’s obligation to do right by you and to keep you safe. Kara:
  • Eliminated taxes on social security, pensions and annuities for most seniors
  • Added additional funding ($2.5 Million) for Meals on Wheels and to enhance elderly nutrition
  • Established a Ombudsman program to help with home care services
  • Increased funding for aging in place initiatives
  • Fought to lower prescription drug costs
  • Expanded coverage for hearing aids on certain healthcare plans
  • Created the Public Elder Abuse Registry to help protect seniors
  • Reformed Nursing Homes to eliminate the practice of putting more than two patients in a single room, requiring 60-90 days’ notice before any fee increases, and strengthening overall oversight over negligent nursing homes
  • Funded a new Dementia Services Coordinator
Kara is committed to making sure that seniors are given an affordable, safe, and secure retirement.
